Welcome to the Swan at Kingholm Quay

' The Swan at Kingholm' was opened on 2nd February 1968; after an interval of 70 years the village had licensed premises again.

The astringent licensing laws in the late lfth century compelled many small village inns to close their doors. Thus the two public houses, 'The Ship' and 'The Sailors Retum' resumed to dwelling houses. The Ordnance map of 1890 shows that 'The Sailors Retum' was the main building which is incorporated in 'The Swan at Kingholm' The cycle is thus complete; meantime the villagers like Dylan Thomas's ' Under Milk Wood 'characters ' are not wholly bad as they live their lives 'at Kingholm Quay'
